Essential Oils
After extensive research, the Thyme Off essential oil blend was created. Proprietary proportions of Thyme, Basil, Lemongrass, Tea Tree & Eucalyptus combine to create an effective DEET alternative to pesky summer problems.
Thyme Off
Thyme off was developed in response to a need to find an alternative to DEET for use in the NWT. We wanted a product that would be kind to the skin but smell great to humans and bad to bugs!

There are 3,600 varieties of mosquitoes, and only a handful of these varieties are found in the NWT. Most natural bug repellents are heavily formulated with citronella. After a thorough literature review of essential oil efficacies across different mosquito species, we discovered that there are much more effective plant extracts to use up here!

Thyme Off has a fresh, herbal unisex scent. That’s important because when you love how a product smells and feels, you are more likely to remember to put it on, and use it often, making bites less likely. As a bonus, Thyme Off will keep you smelling great, even after a few days in the bush.
What’s in it?
All ingredients are non-comedogenic so won’t clog pores, and have been selected for their beneficial properties for the skin.
Sunflower oil (salve only)
Our salve contains sunflower oil which is non-comedogenic meaning it won’t clog pores. It’s also rich in antioxidant Vitamin E and contains vitamins A, C, K and D to help prevent premature aging as it naturally moisturizes your skin. It can also calm redness and soothe dry skin.
Sweet Almond Oil (salve only)
Sweet Almond oil is also non-comedogenic and has been used for centuries as a remedy for various skin conditions! Packed with vitamins and nutrients (vitamine E, vitamin A, essential fatty acids, potassium and zinc) that moisturize, reduce puffiness, soothe irritated skin and reduce the appearance of scarring or rashes.
Neem Oil (salve only)
Neem oil is made from the seeds of the neem tree and has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries to reduce inflammation, repair damaged skin cells, and help keep wounds clean from bacterial and fungal growth. It’s also used commonly as a natural pesticide while being deeply moisturizing and beneficial for your skin and can boost collagen production. This oil does triple duty by repelling pests, moisturizing the skin and helping heal existing bug bites at the same time.
Organic beeswax (salve only)
Thyme Off uses organic beeswax from a small farm in Northern Alberta as a binder. Beeswax naturally softens the skin, helps keep it clean and free of infection, reduces inflammation and fights signs of aging.
Valkyrie
The goal for Valkyrie skin care is to give your skin the nutrients and protection it needs to self-regulate. Yet, harsh environments, hormones and modern living sometimes means that our skin needs a little extra help.
